The short version

The Knock extension

The extension stores your resume text, profile, saved form answers and tracker in Chrome’s local storage on your computer. It reads public company job boards; those boards don’t learn anything about you. It fills application forms only on the pages you open, and only you press Submit, which sends your application to that employer.

If you add your own Google Gemini key, the text of your resume (or, for a scanned PDF, the file) is sent to Google to read it. Google’s free tier may use what it receives to improve its products; see Google’s terms. Without a key, nothing leaves your browser. Every plan works this way: you bring your own key, and your resume never passes through our servers.

If you choose Sign in with Google, Knock saves a copy of your Knock data (answers, resume, saved form answers, tracker and settings, never your Gemini key) in your own Google Drive, in a hidden app folder only Knock can read. It doesn’t pass through any server of ours, and Knock can’t see your other Drive files. Sign out any time. To delete the copy, open Google Drive, then Settings, Manage apps, Knock, and choose Delete hidden app data.

Answers to diversity questions (such as gender or ethnicity) are saved only if you say yes when asked. Knock never stores passwords, one-time codes, card or bank numbers, or ID numbers.
